Effective March 2, 2020: Change in Billing Practices for Records Requests

Overview

The Iowa Division of Workers' Compensation (DWC) has used charge accounts to bill for records requests. DWC uses its 1970s legacy mainframe system to administer charge accounts for records requests. Because of DWC's transition off of its 1970s legacy mainframe system, it will no longer use charge accounts to bill for records requests beginning on March 2, 2020.

What does this change mean for you?

If you do not have a charge account with DWC, it will have no effect on you.

If you have a charge account with DWC, you will not be billed for your records requests using your charge account on or after March 2, 2020.

Billing Practice for All Requests Made On or After March 2, 2020

Beginning March 2, 2020, DWC will do the following to bill for records requests:

  1. Send a separate invoice for each records request to the requestor.
  2. After receipt of payment for the records from the requestor, release the records to the requestor.
