Secondary (Backup) Hearing & Primary Hearing Dates at Road Venues
When requesting a hearing at a road venue, the parties must submit a request for a secondary (backup) hearing date.
Parties may also submit a request for a primary hearing date that is later in time that the requested secondary (backup) hearing date.
If the parties want to request a secondary (backup) hearing date and a primary hearing date, they must do so in the same request on WCES.
Scope of Secondary (Backup) Hearing Status
A case that is scheduled to serve as the secondary (backup) hearing on a given date serves as the secondary (backup) hearing for both the morning and afternoon hearing scheduled on that date.
Hearing Times at Road Venues
DWC typically schedules a hearing in the morning and another hearing in the afternoon on each day that it conducts hearings at road venues.
Below are the typical start times for morning and afternoon hearings at road venues.
Morning hearings at a road venue typically start at 9:00 a.m.
Afternoon hearings at road venues typically begin at 1:00 p.m.
Order of the Commissioner
The Iowa Workers' Compensation Commissioner issued the order In re Hearings at Road Venues On or After January 1, 2020.
The order governs the start time of morning hearings at road venues and the scope of secondary (backup) hearing status in cases scheduled for a hearing at a road venue on or after January 1, 2020.
