Zoom

The Iowa Workers’ Compensation Commissioner issued an order extending the suspension of in-person hearings before the agency.

Under the order, for all hearings held on or after April 30, 2022, the agency will hold the hearing using Zoom unless the presiding deputy workers’ compensation commissioner grants a timely filed joint motion for in-person hearing or joint motion to hold the hearing on CourtCall.

DWC Hearings

Information about DWC hearings on Zoom is below.

Host

The presiding deputy will be the host of the Zoom meeting for each hearing.

Invitation

The presiding deputy will send a Zoom invitation to counsel for the parties before the hearing.

Counsel for the parties will be responsible for forwarding the invitation to other hearing participants such as:

  • Parties
  • Party representatives
  • Witnesses
  • Court reporter
  • Interpreter

If counsel for the parties have any issues with the invitation, email the presiding deputy with counsel for all other parties cc’d.

Audio

The presiding deputy will control the audio options available for the hearing.

Screen-Sharing

The presiding deputy will control screen-sharing for the hearing.

If counsel for a party anticipates using the Zoom screen-sharing option, please notify the presiding deputy in advance of the hearing via email with counsel for all other parties cc’d.

Exhibits

Counsel for the parties are responsible for making sure that all witnesses have access to all exhibits in case they are referenced during testimony.

Telephone Hearings

The order does not impact telephone hearings concerning alternate care, independent medical examinations (IMEs), etc. Agency procedures regarding these hearings remain unchanged. DWC will continue to hold these hearings by telephone.
